Host: This morning we’re looking at Chinese language learning around the world.

主持人：今天我们来聊聊全球汉语学习。

We’re very pleased to welcome Aisha Khan, who is from the Confucius Institute in Karachi, Pakistan.

我们非常高兴欢迎艾莎·汗，她来自巴基斯坦卡拉奇孔子学院。

Good morning, Aisha.

早上好，艾莎。

First, tell us how you came to speak Chinese so well!

首先，请说说你的中文为什么说得这么好！

Aisha Khan: Morning.

艾莎·汗：早上好。

Well, because I had a great teacher, Ms Hu!

因为我遇到一位很棒的老师，胡老师！

She is the best Chinese teacher in my city.

她是我们市里最好的中文老师。

Host: So what makes her such a great teacher?

主持人：是什么让她成为这么优秀的老师？

Aisha Khan: Well, apart from language, she taught us about Chinese culture, and we came to love it.

艾莎·汗：除语言之外，她还给我们讲授中国文化，我们渐渐爱上了中国文化。

Host: Oh, really, what sort of things did she teach you?

主持人：真的吗？她都教你们些什么？

Aisha Khan: Well, once she taught us how to make dumplings.

艾莎·汗：有一次，她教我们包饺子。

She said that during Chinese New Year, families usually sit together and make dumplings.

她说春节时，一家人通常围坐在一起包饺子。

Eating those delicious dumplings together in Ms Hu’s home, we felt like family!

我们在胡老师家中一起品尝美味饺子，亲如一家人！

Host: She sounds like a great teacher.

主持人：听着，她真是一位好老师。

I bet she’s a great inspiration, too.

想必她也深深鼓舞了你。

Is that why you became a teacher yourself?

这就是你选择当老师的原因吗？

Aisha Khan: Absolutely.

艾莎·汗：没错。

She knew the important role language and cultural exchange would play in the future.

她明白语言与文化交流在未来有着重要作用。

I wanted to carry on her work, so I joined the institute as a teacher.

我想传承她的事业，于是来到学院任教。

Host: Has the institute changed a lot since then?

主持人：从那以后，学院变化大吗？

Aisha Khan: Yes.

艾莎·汗：很大。

At first, we only had a few students and teachers.

一开始，我们师生人数很少。

Now we have many more.

如今人数多了很多。

The institute is also a centre for Chinese activities, like a bridge into China.

学院也是中国文化活动中心，如同通往中国的桥梁。

Host: So why do you think it’s been so successful?

主持人：你认为它能如此成功的原因是什么？

Aisha Khan: Well, I think learning Chinese has become important for many people, and Chinese culture is famous around the world.

艾莎·汗：我认为学习中文对很多人愈发重要，而且中国文化享誉世界。

Host: It is, isn’t it?

主持人：确实如此。

I believe its importance has grown because trade between China and Pakistan has increased.

我认为中巴贸易增加，中文的重要性也随之提升。

Aisha Khan: Definitely.

艾莎·汗：的确如此。

And as Ms Hu believes, breaking down language and cultural barriers brings the world together.

正如胡老师所坚信的，打破语言和文化隔阂，能拉近世界的距离。

Host: Your students must also feel that learning Chinese is beneficial to their future.

主持人：你的学生肯定也觉得，学习中文有益于他们的未来。

Aisha Khan: Indeed.

艾莎·汗：没错。

Many students go to work at Chinese companies.

很多学生去中国企业工作。

It’s great to see them go on to strengthen our connection with China.

看到他们持续加深两国联系，我十分欣慰。

Host: You seem to love your job.

主持人：你看起来十分热爱这份工作。

Aisha Khan: Oh, certainly.

艾莎·汗：当然。

It’s very satisfying.

这份工作让我很有成就感。

Host: Oh, that’s great to hear!
