Host: Hello and welcome to the Rush Hour Show, the radio show for your way home.

Our guest today is Kevin Miller with the Pay It Forward Foundation.

So what is "paying it forward"?

那么“传递善意”是什么意思呢？

Kevin: Hi there.

凯文：大家好。

So paying it forward means that if you receive kindness from someone, you don't try to pay them back.

传递善意指的是，如果你得到了别人的善意，不用想着回报对方。

Instead, you go out and show kindness to someone else.

而是转而把这份善意传递给另一个人。

Host: Oh, so it's like helping a stranger.

主持人：原来是这样，也就是去帮助陌生人对吧。

Can you give us an example of how it works?

你能举个例子说说这个过程吗？

Kevin: Well, I'm sure you've heard the famous country song "Chain of Love".

凯文：我相信你一定听过那首著名乡村歌曲《爱的链条》。

The song starts with a man who helps a lady whose car has broken down.

歌曲的开篇是一位男士帮助了车子抛锚的女士。

The lady wants to pay him, but he won't accept payment, instead telling the woman to just show kindness to another person.

女士想要付钱答谢他，可他不肯收钱，只是告诉女士去把善意带给其他人。

Later, when the lady stops at a cafe, she notices her waitress is pregnant and tired.

后来这位女士来到一家咖啡馆，她注意到服务员怀有身孕，看起来十分疲惫。

When the lady finishes eating, she pays for her meal with a hundred-dollar bill.

女士用餐结束后，拿出一百美元结账。

Then the lady walks out, leaving the change and a note for the waitress.

随后她转身离开，把找零和一张纸条留给了服务员。

Her note tells the waitress to continue the chain of kindness.

纸条上写着，让服务员继续传递这份善意。

The song has a surprise ending.

这首歌的结局出人意料。

The waitress goes home to her husband, happy because of the kindness the lady showed her.

服务员满心欢喜回到家中，把这份温暖的善意分享给丈夫。

Then we find out that he is the man who first started the chain of kindness.

我们这才发现，她的丈夫正是最初开启这条善意链条的那位男士。

Host: What a great story.

主持人：这个故事太动人了。

So does this happen in real life?

那现实生活里真的会发生这样的事吗？

Kevin: Yes.Actually, one woman, after paying for her coffee, then quietly paid for the coffee of the customer behind her.

凯文：是的。有一位女士，付完自己的咖啡钱后，悄悄帮身后顾客也买了单。

When that customer discovered his coffee had been paid for, he paid for the customer behind him.

那位顾客发现有人替自己付了钱，便又帮下一位顾客买单。

The chain of kindness continued for hours.

这条善意的链条持续了好几个小时。

Nearly 400 people paid for the coffee of the person behind them.

将近四百人都为身后的陌生人买了咖啡。

Host: Wow, that's amazing.

主持人：哇，这实在太暖心了。
