W:I've been thinking about moving off campus next semester

女： 我一直在想下学期搬到校外去住。

M: Hmm.. I don't know if that's a good idea as your mother and I would worry about you living all by yourself in an apartment so far from home.

男： 嗯... 我不知道这是不是一个好主意。你一个人住在离家里那么远的公寓里，我和你妈妈会担心的。

And then there's the expense, too.

而且，费用也是个问题。

I'm not sure we can afford it.

我不确定我们负担得起。

W: Well, I wouldn't be alone, actually.

女： 呃，其实我不会是一个人住。

Three of my friends from the dormitory would share the place with me.

宿舍的三个朋友会和我一起合租。

And with four of us, it wouldn't cost any more than living in the dorm.

而且我们四个人分摊的话，费用不会比住宿舍贵。

M: Are you sure about that? Rents in big cities are high, and then there's the cost of electricity and gas.

男： 你确定吗？大城市的房租很高，还有电费和煤气费呢。

W: We've budgeted for those, and for Internet and transportation.

And if we move far enough from the city center, the rent is low enough for us to afford all of it.

M: What's about the commute to and from campus?

男： 那往返校园的通勤怎么办？

It sounds like you'll be wasting several hours every day on the road instead of studying.

听起来你每天要在路上浪费好几个小时，而不是用来学习。

W: It's about an hour to campus, but there's no reason I can't study on the bus.

女： 到校园大概一个小时，但我完全可以在公交车上学习啊。

After all, I did that during high school and my commute was even longer then.

毕竟我高中时就这样做过，而且那时的通勤时间比这还长呢。

M: That's true. But I'm not sure why you want to leave campus and go through all that trouble when the cost is the same.

男： 那倒是。但我不明白，既然费用差不多，你为什么非要离开校园，给自己找这么多麻烦呢？

W: For a lot of reasons. We'd have a kitchen, so we could cook ourselves.

女： 原因有很多。我们会有厨房，可以自己做饭。

And we'd each have our own bedroom, where we could study instead of going to the library.

而且我们每个人都能有自己的卧室，可以在里面学习，不用去图书馆。

We just have more space and privacy.

我们就是能有更多空间和隐私。

M: I'm not convinced that the benefits are greater than the disadvantages, but I'll discuss this with your mother.

男： 我还是觉得好处没有坏处多，不过我会和你妈妈商量一下这件事的。
