MY AMAZING NAADAM EXPERIENCE

难忘的那达慕之旅

I experienced the Naadam Festival in China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region for the first time this year.

今年我第一次在中国内蒙古自治区体验了那达慕大会。

The festival falls on the fourth day of the sixth month of the lunar calendar, usually lasting for three days.

这个节日在农历六月初四举办，通常持续三天。

Naadam means “games” in Mongolian, and it is represented by three events: horse racing, wrestling, and archery, which are all so exciting to watch!

“那达慕”在蒙古语中意为“游戏”，大会包含三项标志性赛事：赛马、摔跤和射箭，每一项都精彩十足，看得人热血沸腾！

On the first day, I set off to the games early with my friend Burin.

第一天，我早早和朋友布林动身前往会场。

I saw a lot of people wearing fancy Mongolian robes.

我看见许多人身着华丽的蒙古袍。

Some were feeding their horses, some were practising archery, and others were chatting or taking photographs.

有的人在喂马，有的人在练习射箭，还有人闲谈、拍照。

Burin told me that Mongolians travel every year from near and far to attend the festival, just as their ancestors had done for centuries.

布林告诉我，每年蒙古族人都会从四面八方赶来参加盛会，他们的祖先几百年来一直都是如此。

After the opening ceremony and some amazing performances, the wrestling competition began.

开幕式和精彩的文艺表演结束后，摔跤比赛正式开始。

Mongolian wrestling is different from the wrestling in the Olympic Games.

蒙古摔跤和奥运会摔跤项目不一样。

There are no rounds, and wrestlers are not separated by weight.

比赛不分回合，选手也不按体重分组。

The wrestler loses if any part of his body above his knee touches the ground.

只要选手膝盖以上身体任意部位触地，就算输掉比赛。

After singing some songs, the competitors danced onto the green field, waving their arms in the air as if they were eagles.

选手们唱完歌后，踏着舞步走进碧绿赛场，双臂在空中挥舞，宛若雄鹰展翅。

I was quite moved by their show of strength and grace.

他们兼具力量与优雅的姿态，让我十分动容。

I absolutely enjoyed the archery, too, but the horse races were my favourite part.

射箭项目我也看得十分尽兴，但赛马是我最喜欢的环节。

However, I was surprised to see that the riders were boys and girls!

可让我吃惊的是，骑手居然都是少年孩童！

I heard it is because children are lighter and the horses can run faster and farther.

我听说这是因为孩子体重更轻，马匹能跑得更快、更远。

At first, I was a little worried about the children’s safety, but Burin said, “Don’t worry. They’ve been riding horses all their lives. They’ll be just fine.”

一开始我还有点担心孩子们的安全，布林却说：“别担心，他们从小骑马，完全没问题。”

That was the moment I started to understand why people say “Horses are at the heart of Mongolian culture”.

就在那一刻，我终于读懂了为何人们说“马是蒙古文化的核心”。

I’m finally back home now, feeling really tired, but celebrating Naadam with my friend was totally worth it.

我现在终于到家了，虽然身心俱疲，但和朋友一同参加那达慕，一切都值得。

He invited me back for the winter to stay in a traditional Mongolian tent and eat hot pot.

他邀请我冬天再来，住进传统蒙古包，一起吃火锅。

I can’t wait!

我已经迫不及待了！
