M: Did you hear about Johnny?

男： 你听说约翰尼的事了吗？

W: No. Why? Is he okay?

女： 没有啊。怎么了？他没事吧？

M: He had some plastic surgery done.

男： 他去做了个整形手术。

w: What? why?

女： 什么？为什么？

MM: Do you remember he had a scar on his face?

男： 你还记得他脸上有道疤吧？

W: Yes, of course. He always had that. I've known him since primary school, and I always remember him having that on his cheek.

女： 是啊，当然记得。他一直都有那道疤。我从小学就认识他，我一直记得他脸颊上有那道疤。

M: Well, he had it fixed.

男： 嗯，他把它弄掉了。

W: Fixed? What do you mean? You can't fix a scar.

女： 弄掉？什么意思？疤痕怎么能“弄掉”？

M: You know what I mean? He had an operation done on it, plastic surgery, in order to cover it and make it less noticeable.

男： 你懂我意思的。他做了个手术，整形手术，就是为了遮盖它，让它不那么明显。

W: Oh, well, that's ridiculous, isn't it? It was noticeable, sure.

女： 哦，这样啊。但这很可笑，不是吗？那道疤确实挺明显的，

But it wasn't an ugly scar, It never occurred to me that he should have it taken care of like that.

但它并不难看啊。我从来没想过他应该那样去处理它。

M: I agree. I can understand some scars and physical defects can be ugly and distracting, but not Johnny's.

男： 我同意。我能理解有些疤痕和身体缺陷可能难看又碍眼，但约翰尼的不是。

In fact,I thought it added character... like it gave him a certain uniqueness.

事实上，我觉得那道疤给他增添了个性……像是赋予了他某种独特的气质。

W: He must have felt differently though. He must have felt self-conscious and insecure, perhaps.

女： 那他肯定不是这么想的。他一定是感到不自在和没安全感了，也许吧。

M: No, no, that's not the reason. He was totally fine with his scar.

男： 不，不，不是那个原因。他对自己那道疤完全没问题的。

As you said, he had had it for most of his life.

就像你说的，他大半辈子都有那道疤了。

W: Then why did he have the operation?

女： 那他为什么要做手术？

M: Because his girlfriend wanted him to.

男： 因为他女朋友想让他做。

W: What? That's so superficial and selfish of her.

女： 什么？！ 她这也太肤浅自私了吧！

If Johnny's girlfriend doesn't like him for who he is, then she does not deserve to be his girlfriend.

如果约翰尼的女朋友不喜欢他本来的样子，那她就不配做他女朋友。

M: You are right. So he is insane to give in to her like that.

男： 你说得对。所以他屈服于她真是太傻了。

But when I told him, he said he loves her and would just do what she wants him to.

但我跟他说的时候，他说他爱她，只要她想，他就去做。

W: What a fool he is.

女： 他真傻。
