Tony: Hi! Is this the meeting for student volunteers?

托尼： 嗨！这是学生志愿者的会议吗？

Wang Li: Hi, Tony! Yes, it is!

王丽： 嗨，托尼！是的！

Tony: Oh, hi, Wang Li! I used to volunteer at my high school in America, so I wanted to try it here in China.

托尼： 哦，嗨，王丽！我以前在美国上高中的时候做过志愿者，所以我想在中国也试一试。

Peipei: We’re glad you’re here! Our meeting today is to talk about what kind of volunteer project we should do this term.

佩佩： 很高兴你能来！我们今天开会是要讨论这学期我们应该开展什么样的志愿项目。

Wang Li: Peipei, may I suggest that we do something for schools in poor areas?

王丽： 佩佩，我能不能提议为贫困地区的学校做点什么？

Perhaps we could organise donations of things such as pens and notebooks, or other school supplies for poor students.

或许我们可以组织募捐，为贫困学生筹集钢笔、笔记本以及其他学习用品。

Peipei: Good idea, but we did that last year. Wouldn’t it be better if we did something different this year, like organising students to volunteer their time?

佩佩： 好主意，不过我们去年已经做过了。今年做点不一样的会不会更好，比如组织学生奉献时间做志愿活动？

Wang Li: Like what?

王丽： 比如什么呢？

Peipei: Well, like cleaning up the community, taking down ads from walls, and picking up litter.

佩佩： 嗯，比如打扫社区、清理墙上小广告、捡拾垃圾。

It might be a good idea to contact the community office and ask how we can help. Do you guys have any other ideas?

我们可以联系社区办公室，问问我们可以提供哪些帮助。你们还有别的想法吗？

Wang Li: How about writing to some nursing homes to see if they need someone to spend time with the elderly people? We can play games, sing, or just chat!

王丽： 我们给养老院写信怎么样，问问是否需要人陪伴老人？我们可以陪他们玩游戏、唱歌，或者聊聊天！

Tony: That sounds like one of my school’s volunteer projects.

托尼： 这听起来和我学校的一个志愿项目很像。

Wang Li: Really? What other volunteer projects does your school take part in?

王丽： 真的吗？你们学校还参与哪些志愿项目？

Tony: Oh, all kinds. Every year, our whole school raises money to give to a different charity.

托尼： 噢，各种各样的都有。每年我们全校都会筹款捐给不同的慈善机构。

For instance, we donated to a medical charity last year, and to an education charity before that.

比如，去年我们给一家医疗慈善机构捐款，在那之前捐给过一家教育慈善机构。

We raise money in different ways, such as by making and selling things, or holding a marathon and asking people to promise to donate for every kilometre we run. We also have weekly volunteer groups.

我们用各种各样的方式筹款，比如手工制作并售卖物品，或者举办马拉松活动，请人们承诺我们每跑一公里就捐一笔钱。我们还有每周开展活动的志愿小组。

Peipei: That sounds interesting! What do the groups do?

佩佩： 听起来很有意思！这些小组都做些什么？

Tony: Well, on Fridays, there are student volunteers who help serve food to homeless people.

托尼： 嗯，周五，学生志愿者帮忙给无家可归的人分发食物。

And on Saturday mornings, a group of students goes to a children’s hospital to cheer up all the little kids there.

周六上午，会有一批学生去儿童医院，逗那里的小朋友开心。

Wang Li: Hey, I was also thinking we could contact a children’s hospital and ask how we could help. How does that idea sound, Peipei?

王丽： 哎，我也在想，我们可以联系一家儿童医院，问问我们可以提供什么帮助。佩佩，你觉得这个主意怎么样？

Peipei: I love that idea! Thanks, Tony and Wang Li!

佩佩： 我太喜欢这个想法了！谢谢托尼和王丽！

Tony: No problem, I’m glad to help. Volunteering is something we should all do.

托尼： 不客气，我很乐意出力。志愿服务是我们所有人都应该做的事。
